Foundational Step One: Loving Self Care

February 8, 2016

Song of the Soulmate
A Resource To Support Soulmates and Sacred Loving
In our commitment to love even more deeply and wholly this year, let’s highlight the first of progressive steps offered through this blog that will support our growth in loving.  For the first step, we start at home. We start with loving ourselves more actively.

Often, it is easier to focus on loving the “other,” rather than on loving and cultivating caring relationship with ourselves.  It may even feel foreign, shameful, uncomfortable or painful as we bring consciousness to this.  We may not even know how to begin.   So, let’s look at it in greater depth.

With giving as much as I do in my life and work, finding healthy balance with loving self-care has often been a challenge for me.  This year, in particular, I am making the commitment to create more consistent flow and equality in support of myself in all areas.  Giving back to myself healthfully at least as much as I give out.  I plan to be a better “love parter” for myself this year, and I invite you to do the same.  It is the foundation of all aspects of healthy loving.

The Holy Ones teach us that the first place to start in “amping up” our capacities for self-love is to tune in and listen to our inner voices and hearts, asking them what we may be needing in body, mind, heart and soul.  We can ask questions like: what do we need and want in the moment or long term; what do we dream of; what will feed us; what will make us happy; what will empower us; what needs expression, creatively or in other ways; how can we better support our health, etc.  One way of looking at it is that we are giving ourselves time to ask and answer the kinds of questions we would want to know about a loved one in supporting them.  It helps to remember that we need caring time and attention from ourselves, too.

Secondly, it is beneficial to not only remember, but commit, to being good partners for ourselves, good advocates for the health, happiness and wellbeing of our inner and outer natures.  We need to give ourselves permission to respond to what we are wanting lovingly and non-judgmentally.  To address our personal wishes or concerns with compassion and thoughtfulness, just as we would for others we love.  And, lastly, to then follow through with a plan to create what is required in order to support what we are needing or to lovingly negotiate a compromise if necessary.

Healthy, responsive, loving behavior with ourselves is a potent foundational step in loving others more deeply.  Even from a practical standpoint, if “our well is empty” we have less or little to offer others whom we love.  Join me in doing something actively loving and supportive for yourself every day!  (You may also find the current Flame of Love blog entry of use in this matter.)
